Shop owner, Kris Tague, started playing trumpet in 5th grade with Jim Culbertson in Decatur Illinois. Jim was a world class trumpeter and is the father of jazz artist Brian Culbertson. Kris moved to the Sacramento area in time to attend Sacramento High School, where he expanded his musical experience under Ike Paggett and Carolina Pongratz. After graduating, he attended Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego, CA. While there, Kris had the opportunity to study for a year with Allen Siebert, principle trumpet with the San Diego Symphony. Transferring to California State University Sacramento, Kris continued his studies briefly with Ed Higgins and finishing with Gary Dilworth. While attending CSUS, Kris had the opportunity to spend time in the repair technician’s office learning the mechanics and intricacies of musical instruments. It soon became clear that Kris’ mechanical skills were a good fit for instrument repair. Baldwin Wong began teaching Kris and showing him the proper way to repair instruments. In 1993, Kris was hired at Northridge Music Center as an apprentice in the repair shop under Scott Mandeville. After working beside Scott for 12 ½ years, Scott left Northridge and Kris became the Shop Manager and Lead Technician. After 8 years as Shop Manager, Kris had the opportunity to purchase the repair shop from Northridge Music and today owns the repair facilities inside Northridge Music Center.
